Bendigo & Adelaide Bank Corporate Support Day

BendigoAdelaide1

BendigoAdelaide2

BendigoAdelaide3

A very energetic team from Bendigo and Adelaide Bank attended a Corporate Support day at our Sydney Yagoona shelter on Wednesday 18th January. It was all hands on deck as the enthusiastic group scrubbed, hosed, swept and gardened in the blistering heat - until our pocket pet and cattery areas were sparkling clean!

The crew also participated in an informative session with the RSPCA Education Team and enjoyed some time out cat grooming, learning dog training skills and cuddling our rabbits.

The group’s Team Leader James Macken said,

“Bendigo Bank is proud to support and work with the RSPCA - they do a fantastic job year after year – the Corporate Support Days are a great way where staff can come together and go out to help the RSPCA. It all starts with little efforts that can then lead to long term benefits for the RSPCA. Thanks for a great day – all the staff at the RSPCA made us feel so welcome. We look forward to the next support day.”

RSPCA would like to say a big thank you to the group - we look forward to seeing you all again next year!

Lend Lease build a future for animals

Landlease1

Landlease2

Landlease3

Lend Lease celebrated their community contribution at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter for the second year with the building of a horse shelter and cleaning and re-finishing our wooden screens.

20 volunteers joined us on Thursday 15th September for a productive day of building, cleaning and painting. The builders from Lend Lease donated their time and materials to create a horse shelter in our new horse paddock, while other Lend Lease staff cleaned and oil painted our wooden screens in the new section of our shelter. These screens provide a visual barrier between the animals to help them stay calm and feel secure.

Renee from the Business Relations department frequently showered the staff with puppies to keep them motivated, a highlight of the day for all volunteers.

A big thank you to Lend Lease for the organisation and hard work on the day and we hope to see you all again next year!

Corporate News - June 2011 - It's workplace giving month!

Workplace Giving

WPG week 2011

We would like to thank all our workplace giving partners for this financial year – these are the offices who encourage their staff around the country to donate to the RSPCA via their payroll.  Find out if your office donates to us – many companies match the donation of their staff doubling the money we get. With tax time approaching, why not avoid the hassle of keeping receipts in a shoe box and have it all done on the spot via your pay!

Optus send us to school and to the theatre

One of our workplace giving partners is Optus. Not only do they encourage their staff to donate to us via their pay they also keep an ear out for us when it comes to training. We have had many of our staff receive free desktop training in excel from New Horizons Computer Learning Centre (www.nhaustralia.com.au). Thanks to everyone at Optus and New Horizons. In addition, Optus in conjunction with the Belvoir Theatre (www.belvoir.com.au) invite our hard working staff and volunteers to the theatre for free. www.optus.com.au

Welcome to Hindmarsh – newest workplace giving partner

Our newest workplace giving partners is Hindmarsh – a leading construction, development and property company with offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney. We are very happy to have them on board and look forward to meeting some of their 300 employees who can now choose to donate to the RSPCA through their pay. Welcome Hindmarsh! www.hindmarsh.com.au

Ritchies make us rich!

Ritchies

Did you know that the supermarket chain Ritchies www.ritchies.com.au (started in 1870) is one year older than the RSPCA in Australia (started in 1871)? Ritchies supermarkets donate to the RSPCA every month via its Community Benefits Card program. All you need to do is ask for a Community Card from your local Ritchies, nominate the RSPCA NSW and every time you purchase something (and show them your card) they donate 0.5% of your total purchase cost to us. Over time and with lots of people this adds up and every month we receive a healthy donation. Thanks Ritchies!

Vodafone Foundation pay for a staff member and volunteer at the Central Coast

Not only has new employee Fiona Millhouse begun working on programs for the RSPCA NSW for a year – fully paid for by the Vodafone Foundation – but Vodafone visited our Central Coast shelter and completed one of the hardest volunteering jobs we have ever put onto a group. Read about it here: Corporate Volunteering at Central Coast

Thanks Bulldogs (www.bulldogs.com.au)

Databank backs up our data for free

Like any large organisation we have a large amount of data to store. Every month thanks to Databank Technologies (www.databank.com.au) we get our offsite backup  donated for free. They take care of our data in case of disaster ie if we lost all our onsite back ups – thanks to Databank Technologies it’s all safe and sound.

KBT Overnight express delivers donations for free

Whenever we get large donations of supplies for our shelters it often comes with the need to pick it up! This means pallets and trucks which we don’t own. Thanks to KBT Overnight express who provide that service often for free and always cheaply. KBT Overnight Express Pty Ltd is a wholly family owned transport and warehousing business. A great bunch of people we recommend them to you. www.kbt.com.au

Bulldogs promote Million Paws Walk

Ziggyfootball

On game day Saturday 23rd April the Bulldogs helped the RSPCA promote the upcoming Million Paws Walk. RSPCA volunteers and the Belles (Bulldogs Cheerleaders) set out with Bulldogs face masks and Easter eggs for all their fans. At half-time our celebrity canine ambassador Ziggy provided half-time entertainment with owner Kristen Feddersen by giving one lucky fan the chance to win a Signed Bulldogs jersey, tickets to the Million Paws Walk Sydney, a Million Paws Walk T-shirt and a 12 month subscription to RSPCA’s Animals Magazine. The RSPCA hosted the Olympians Room where Inspector Skye talked to other guests about the role of the RSPCA Inspectors and the work of the RSPCA NSW before the game.

A big thank you to the Bulldogs staff, players and fans for making the night a success for the RSPCA and congratulations to the Bulldogs for their win against the Rabbitohs.

Pirtek to the rescue

For a while now Alan from Pirtek (www.pirtek.com.au) has been quietly helping the Sydney Yagoona shelter by repairing and supplying high pressure hoses that we use for cleaning. We estimate that the parts and labour provided by Pirtek has saved the RSPCA over $8000. So help them, help us and  look to Pirtek for your fluid transfer needs.

Legal Beagles

We would like to extend our thanks to our friends in the legal world who help us out with pro bono work. We have acknowledged law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques in the past but again they have helped us out with some excellent legal advice for free which helped us in turn save even more money.

Equally we are very grateful for the help from PILCH NSW – the Public Interest Clearing House NSW (www.pilchnsw.org.au). They help find solicitors willing to work for us for free and have started with Gadens lawyers (www.gadens.com.au). If you are a solicitor and would be keen to help us or other charities, please get in touch with Jillian Field on jillian@pilchnsw.org.au. Thanks Legal Beagles!

Nomads dig deep

Nomad

The Nomads Golf Club started in South Africa in 1960 with a small core group of businessmen who shared an appreciation for golf and wanted to give back to the community through fundraising. Since that time, club membership has spread to include chapters in various parts of the world including Australia. In 2010, Nomads Sydney selected RSPCA NSW to be their charity of choice at a golfing event held at the Long Reef Golf Club. It was a wonderful day with teams competed throughout the day on and off the course. At dinner, prizes were awarded to the best players on the day. Raffles and auctions were also held to raise funds for the RSPCA. RSPCA CEO Steve Coleman spoke of the importance of community support and thanked the Nomads Sydney club members for their generous commitment to the animals of NSW. The event raised $25,500 for the RSPCA. RSPCA would like to thank Event Organiser, Steve Betts and Nomads for this remarkable donation.

Christmas comes twice thanks to Masterpet

Masterpet

A big thank you to Alison Wady and the team from Masterpet who donated 3 pallets of goodies to the Sydney Shelter a couple of weeks ago in response to our shelter wish list. Just like Christmas morning it was a lot of fun opening the boxes to reveal the gifts inside – dog beds and cushions, hundreds of vibrating mice toys, Christmas bears, toy platypuses, santas on ropes, treats…the list goes on and on. Alison visited the shelter to see where the presents are going and was swamped by grateful dogs. Thanks masterpet! www.masterpet.com.au

Vodafone to the rescue!

Vodafone

In the week before Christmas Vodafone gave us a call we couldn’t believe. They had a cheque for us – a big one: $21,600! All from the Vodafone Finance staff fundraising. Our Chief Inspector Dave O’Shannessy is seen here accepting the cheque. The best thing about it is that it will help pay for an emergency rescue vehicle for the Inspectorate. Stay tuned for pictures of the vehicle when it is bought but until then, join us in giving an enormous thank you to Vodafone. www.vodafone.com.au

AAMI - Provide shade for Hunter Shelter animals!

Hunter shelter before
Before

Hunter shelter after

...and after!

Back in December last year AAMI presented our Hunter Shelter with a cheque for $10,000 to help improve and maintain the adoption & care facilities. You will see from the ‘before’ photo of our tired exercise yards at our Hunter Shelter we were in desperate need of some proper constructed shade structures. We would like to thank all the dedicated AAMI staff for contributing and making this happen. When you compare the new verses old pictures I’m sure you’ll agree this was desperately needed. Thank you AAMI! (www.aami.com.au)

AAPT – Sell phones to raise $10,000!

AAPT dec 2010

Thanks to Sue and Aquilina of AAPT who got behind a great idea to sell excess stock of new and used phones to the staff of AAPT. After raising $5000 from the sale, AAPT head office matched it with another $5000 making a tidy $10,000 donation to the RSPCA NSW. Thank you AAPT! (www.aapt.com.au)

The Trust Company – Corporate Cupcake Day fundraisers of 2010!

The Trust Company 1

The Trust Company 2

Back in August 2010 Alison and Angela from the Trust Company decided to win the corporate fundraisers of the year for Cupcake Day – and win they did! We (with a little help from four legged Belle - see pic) recently presented the trophy to the team at the Trust Company who contributed to its success. Their secret was getting the whole office involved with posters everywhere and asking the company to match any money raised by staff – dollar for dollar. So thanks to two great people the idea spread through the company and they raised $3690. Thanks the Trust Company (www.thetrustcompany.com.au).

The Trust Company also recently further contributed on a corporate support day at the Sydney shelter (http://rspcansw.blogspot.com/2011/01/trust-company-dig-deep-for-corporate.html)!

Franklins comes alive!

Franklins team

We were honoured to welcome a great group of people from Franklins supermarkets in Revesby and Conbell Park who fundraised $1700 in cash & $200 worth of dog treats. They took a tour with Sydney shelter manager  Donna on Friday 3rd December and were shown all the wonderful animals we currently have in our care and available for adoption.  Special mention should go to Kate from Franklins who packed 100 individual lolly bags as her special thank you to the staff at Yagoona. Thank you Franklins. (www.franklins.com.au)

Thank you to the AAMI Charities Committee

AAMI Scott @ Hunter

On Wednesday 1st December Katie, Natasha, Haley and Keyah visited the Hunter Shelter in Rutherford. After an extensive tour with shelter manager Scott they presented the shelter with a cheque for $10,000 to go towards projects at the Hunter Shelter. The staff had raised $5000 through fundraising activities such as mufti days which was then generously dollar matched with $5000 from AAMI head office. An incredible amount of money. Stay tuned for the  photos when the money is spent. Thank you to all involved in the AAMI Charities Committee (www.aami.com.au)

The Taj Mahal comes to the RSPCA Sydney Shelter!

Taj Mahal

We recently moved and upgraded our pocket pet area at the RSPCA Sydney shelter and were provided with a Taj Mahal chicken coop free of charge thanks to the generosity of 'Backyard Chicken Coops Pty Ltd' www.backyardchickencoops.com.au - you can phone them on 0424 100 087.

We are using the chicken coop as a rabbit hutch because it has multi levels for the rabbits to explore and is larger than the standard hutch. Thanks Backyard Chicken Coops and thank you to the team from Lend Lease who set it up and built the new pocket pet area on their Community Day on 23rd September.

The power of Macquarie Bank dollar matching

Jackson Gowan

Thank you to Sue Gowans and the Banking & Financial Services Charity Committee within Macquarie Group Services Australia Pty Limited (www.macquarie.com).  After moving offices in Bond St to a new building in Shelley St, the charity committee decided to have a 'Shelley Street Basement Sale' of excess office furniture to fundraise for the RSPCA. This sale raised nearly $6000 which was then dollar matched by the Macquarie Group Foundation – a total of $12,000!

Sue has a long association with the RSPCA. She adopted Jackson (see picture) from the RSPCA NSW Sydney shelter in Yagoona. Sue said this about Jackson: “I'm proud to say that more than 10 years ago we adopted a beautiful Blue Cattle Dog from the RSPCA at Yagoona.  We called him Jackson (after Jackson Pollock) and he is the best dog we have ever had!  He is such a gentle, handsome boy and we all just adore him & hate the fact that we will only have a few more years to love him.”

Thank you to Sue, the Banking & Financial Services Charity Committee and Macquarie Group Foundation.

Congratulations to Crown Castle – this year’s Million Paws Walk highest corporate team fundraiser.

Crown Castle

A team of four from Crown Castle beat all other corporate teams in this year’s Million Paws Walk fundraising challenge. Getting friends and colleagues to donate to their online fundraising page the team walked the Sydney Million Paws Walk (see picture) and and then watched the money roll in. Congratulations to Crown Castle (www.crowncastle.com) and thank you to Kerrie and the other staff for making the RSPCA NSW feel so welcome when we presented their trophy at a staff meeting in September.

Deloitte’s pro bono work

Thank you to accountant company Deloitte (www.deloitte.com/au) for putting up their hand to help us for free with some difficult cost-benefit analysis of one of our community animal welfare programs.  It will take some time but we appreciate pro bono support like this as we not only get to work with some of the best companies in Australia and get their expertise, but we get it without having to spend donors’ money.

Donation of furniture from SAP

Couch

A big thank you to Michelle Thompson and her bosses at software company SAP (www.sap.com) for thinking to give us a call when moving office and getting new furniture. We took delivery of office chairs, filing cabinets, ottomans (pictured) and desks all of which have started to find new homes throughout the RSPCA NSW. Thank you SAP!

AAMI - thank you!

Thank you to AAMI!

Thank you to the generous people at AAMI who fundraised $5000 for the RSPCA NSW and presented the cheque to us on the 5th May 2010 at the Sydney (Yagoona) shelter. This brings the total raised by AAMI this year to $15,000!

RSPCA NSW welcomes Microsoft as new workplace givers!

In February we visited Microsoft’s offices in North Ryde and met and talked with staff interested in Microsoft’s workplace giving program. Every dollar donated to the RSPCA through an employee’s pay is matched by Microsoft dollar for dollar. Staff are also given $1,500 worth of software to donate to a charity of their choice per employee. We also recently received a discount on server software under Microsoft’s discounted charity licence.

So, thank you Microsoft!

Thank you to Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse

Credit Suisse recently upgraded their office with new computer screens and took the time and interest to find out if the RSPCA NSW were interested in 25 almost new 19” NEC multisync LCD1960NXi screens. These screens are brilliant for our Call Centre (as they are so much bigger than the ones we replaced), Accounts Department (some of whom were using enormous power wasting flickering dinosaurs) and the front counter at the RSPCA Sydney Shelter to help staff with adoptions. Thank you Credit Suisse!

Mallesons Stephen Jaques - pro bono supporters

Mallesons Stephen Jaques is a Sydney commercial law firm with a huge heart. Not only are they generous workplace givers and regular RSPCA event attendees, they have even knitted dog coats in the past. Mallesons has now provided us with pro bono legal advice. We cannot thank the solicitors and partners involved enough for their highest quality commercial legal advice. Thank you Mallesons!
