We are very privileged at RSPCA NSW to receive so many expressions of interest and applications every week from enthusiastic and dedicated people who want to work with us due to their love for and dedication to animals. We too share that passion.
That passion and that love of animals is certainly important, but so too are the qualifications, experience, education and all the (so called) ‘soft skills’ like having a positive attitude and good people/interpersonal skills.
Our recruitment process includes a variety of steps, including interviews, skills and medical assessments, as well as reference and other checks. We look for the best person for the job.
Our focus in working for RSPCA is the wellbeing of the animals, and we each do this in our own way. Some of us work directly with the animals – caring for them, cleaning up after them, retraining them, rehabilitating them; others contribute through the skills and experience we bring in areas such as information technology, administration, marketing, fundraising and retail.
Each of us is committed to the Five Freedoms, RSPCA policies and values, and making a difference for all creatures great and small.
We can’t offer large salaries, great financial benefits or a corner office, but we can offer the opportunity to make a difference, and we think the coming years will be exciting at RSPCA, as we embrace our new strategic direction.
You may have read about some of our initiatives on other parts of our website – for instance our Care Centres, our Vet clinics, the Education we undertake and of course our Inspectors. If not, we would encourage you to have a look around the site - it’s a great way of learning about the depth and breadth of what we do, because our work helps not only animals, but also the people who are linked to them.
If you’re considering a career at the RSPCA and you share our passion for animal wellbeing then there are some harsh realities of working in this field that you may need to consider: physically hard work, limited resources, working in the rain, heat and cold, working public holidays including Christmas day, New Years Day, Easter etc. Not to mention the emotional rollercoaster ride that just comes with the territory of working in an animal environment. We can save most but not all. The joy of those we save is absolutely extraordinary; the pain of those we lose is heartbreaking.
We have a truly incredible group of people that we work with everyday – in all the roles, all the locations and at all levels within the organisation.
