Changing hearts and minds

Through the RSPCA's humane education program, we can decrease the number of animals subjected to cruelty.
The RSPCA believes it is crucial for children of all ages to learn respect towards all animals and to understand that they feel pain just like humans do. Animal abuse does not happen in isolation. It is part of a far bigger problem of violence in society. Research suggests there is a link between animals abuse, child abuse and aggressive, antisocial behaviour. The RSPCA's humane education program aims to break this cycle of violence by giving students skills to make better choices.
This is where our FREE Humane Education Program can help.
Educating young people is the best way to improve the welfare of animals and prevent cruelty. The RSPCA's humane education program focuses on empathy, responsibility and respect for all animals and is aimed at both primary and high school children. We aim to positively change student's behaviour and attitudes towards animals through interesting, informative and eye-opening lessons. We hope that our lessons will inspire and encourage students to make kind, informed choices about the way they treat animals and each other.
Our specialist staff and volunteers are devoted to teaching children to develop empathy towards animals and become responsible pet owners. Each year RSPCA humane education staff and volunteers visit hundreds of schools and community groups with the hope of changing the future and wiping out animal cruelty.
"Humane Education explores how we might live with compassion and respect for everyone - not just our friends and neighbours but all people; not just our dogs and cats but all animals; not just our homes but the earth itself; our ultimate home."
