RSPCA shelters

The RSPCA has 9 shelters in NSW which provide comfort, shelter and the best possible care to lost, abandoned, surrendered, neglected, unwanted, sick or injured animals. The RSPCA also has adoption centres and RSPCA-managed council pounds (listed under Shelters). Each year, the RSPCA offers shelter to more than 30,000 animals in New South Wales.

When animals are given shelter at the RSPCA, their wounds are treated, they are fed nutritious food and kind staff help them regain trust in human beings (Positions Vacant).

RSPCA shelters also provide a resource for the community and aim to educate people about responsible pet ownership, helping potential owners make an informed choice about sharing their lives with an animal.

The RSPCA aims to find loving, permanent homes for all the animals who come to its shelters in need. Animals are behaviour-assessed, vaccinated, desexed and wormed before going to their new home. Dogs and cats are microchipped and dogs are heartworm tested before adoption.

Injured and orphaned wildlife are temporarily accommodated at RSPCA shelters before being transferred to specialist wildlife organisations (Wildlife contacts).

Most RSPCA shelters offer an ambulance service to pick up injured stray animals and in some cases pick up pets for clinic appointments and emergency boarding.

Emergency boarding is offered at some shelters for people who have an urgent problem, such as going to hospital. Some regional shelters also offer holiday boarding.

Shelters also provide a home for animals left in the RSPCA’s care - the treasured pets of people who have passed away or who can no longer look after their animals [RSPCA Legacy pets]. You can also adopt an animal from our Last Chance Club and Save Our Seniors club at RSPCA shelters.

Please contact your nearest shelter for more information about our services.

Old Newspapers

The RSPCA is in continual need of newspapers to line the bottom of our animals' cages.

If you could deliver your old newspapers to your nearest RSPCA shelter, we would be most grateful.
