RSPCA Veterinary Hospitals
The RSPCA operates four veterinary hospitals:
Yagoona (Sydney area)
Rutherford (Hunter region)
Tighes Hill (Newcastle)
These hospitals provide medical services to both shelter animals who have no owners, injured strays and to the pets of private clients. RSPCA hospitals also treat the victims of cruelty and provide medical evidence for the prosecution of cruelty cases.
The RSPCA aims to provide the best possible care for all animals. Our hospitals are equipped with the latest in medical technology - including in-house pathology, ultra sound, dental facilities, intensive care and special diagnostic aids. RSPCA veterinary and nursing staff are highly trained, dedicated professional (employment opportunities).
Veterinary Programs
Puppy Pre-School (at Yagoona Shelter) The RSPCA’s Puppy Pre-School classes, run by qualified veterinary nurses and Canine Good Citizen dog instructors, aim to teach your dog to interact appropriately with other dogs and people.
Pets of Older People - POOPS provides a safety net for pets when their elderly owners faced a life-changing crisis. Age and disability or dementia often prevent people from accessing veterinary help when needed. The program operates across the Sydney metropolitan area and is already extending to regional areas.
Community Animal Welfare Schemes (CAWS) Veterinary staff play a strong role in Community Animal Welfare Schemes (CAWS) – travelling to country and remote areas to desex, vaccinate and treat pets belonging to regional and indigenous communities.
Indigenous Dog Programs As well as CAWS, there are Indigenous Dog Programs.
Overseas Aid The RSPCA’s veterinary hospitals also provides overseas aid for animals, with desexing projects after the Asian tsunami, in South Pacific island nations and in on-going support for the RSPCA in Papua New Guinea (Overseas Aid).
RSPCA Pet Insurance may be able to assist with the cost of the very best veterinary treatment, which your pet deserves.
