The RSPCA has two clinics in the Hunter region – at Rutherford and at Tighes Hill.

Rutherford veterinary hospital is part of a brand new $10 million shelter complex completed last year. Facilities include two consultation rooms and four surgical tables in two operating theatres. There are five isolation areas with separate surgery and preparation rooms, including separate facilities for animals with canine cough, cat flu or ringworm. The canine cough eward even has its own exercise area. A special, easy-access ambulance bay improves transport of sick or injured strays.

Pets belonging to private clients have a separate hospital area so they are not at risk of coming into contact with stray animals who may not have been vaccinated. There is an x-ray room and an in-house laboratory.

Here, the RSPCA can achieve its aim of providing excellent veterinary care to all creatures great and small, whether they are shelter animals, private clients or cruelty cases.
