Please help give hurting animals like Danny the special care they desperately need.
Danny was rescued by RSPCA Inspectors after experiencing severe neglect. When this sweet dog arrived at our shelter, he was in agonising pain. After suffering chronic ear infections without treatment, Danny’s ears were in such bad shape that he needed surgery to remove his ear canals. Although this would leave him deaf, it was the best way to give this loving boy a life free from pain and discomfort.
Danny has been through so much and he is waiting so patiently for his forever home. He spent 680 days in our care before he was transferred out to a rescue group who specialises in rehoming deaf dogs, and we hope he will have better luck finding a new forever home.
Our animals are staying with us twice as long than previous years.
It’s the heartbreaking result of:
- More animals with complex needs are coming to our shelters.
We’ve especially seen an increase in Inspectorate cases like Danny’s, where animals are rescued from some of the most devastating cruelty and neglectful situations you can imagine. Just like Danny, these animals need extensive care—from veterinary treatment to behavioural rehabilitation. It can be a long journey for these innocent animals to recover and prepare for their forever home. - The rising cost of living means fewer people are looking to adopt animals.
Between the soaring costs of household basics, like groceries, and the rental crisis forcing people out of their homes—adding the ongoing expense of owning an animal is simply out of the question for many families. People are also having to make the painful decision to give up their beloved pets because they can’t keep up with the costs of their care or find a rental they can afford, that will also accept their beloved pets. And heartbreakingly, many of these animals end up with us.
When animals like Danny must wait so many months—or even years—for a home, the knock-on effect of these long-term stays makes our situation even more urgent. It means more costs to cover and less space to take in new animals in need.
Please donate now to help provide extensive care and loving homes for neglected animals like Danny.
