Benefits of the Home Ever After Program

Having Home Ever After as a future care plan for your pet takes away the worry of an uncertain future. With the welfare of your pet as our priority, you can know for certain that, if you were no longer around for your animal companion, RSPCA NSW will be there to lend a hand.

Home Ever After provides a practical platform for your final wishes to be recorded. Enrolment in the program provides your executor with the necessary instructions to secure your pet. The program safeguards their needs and ensures they are treated as a sentient being.

To guarantee that your pet can receive the care you would want them to experience, we ensure that a profile is created by the person who knows them best – you. This means, should we need to rehome your adorable animal companion, we can match their needs with someone who can offer them a home as good as yours.

Even if we find your pet another home, we promise to ensure their continued wellbeing for the rest of their natural life. As part of our Home Ever After program, your pet’s future welfare is regularly assessed with in-person visits and periodic check-ins, providing continued care and protection for your beloved forever friend.

Enrolment in Home Ever After also provides you with the documentation needed to ensure your pet can be brought into our immediate care should you predecease them.

Immediate care for your pet should they ever lose you

Enrolment in HEA provides all the documentation needed to ensure your pet is taken into our immediate care should you predecease them.

To ensure your pet is looked after exactly the way you would want them to, a profile is created by the person who knows them best – you. This means, should we ever need to rehome your pet, we can match their needs with someone who is able to offer them a home just like yours.

Your pet’s future welfare is secure with regular checks performed by RSPCA NSW. If there ever comes a time when you are not here to love and care for your pet, we promise to be there for them. We will care for them while we use our expert rehoming experience to find a suitable home, and then we will monitor their welfare for the rest of their natural life too.

HEA provides a practical platform for your final wishes to be recorded. Enrolment in the program provides your executor with the necessary instructions to secure your pet. It safeguards their needs and ensures they are treated as a sentient being.

Having HEA as a future care plan for your pet takes away the worry. With the welfare of your pet as our priority, you will have peace of mind knowing that, if you were no longer here for your pet, we will be.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm pretty sure my family could look after my pet should something happen to me. Do I still need to enrol in HEA?

Friends and family who know your pets and are in a suitable position to take on the responsibility are the best choice. If for some reason those intentions fall through, Home Ever After can act as your ‘insurance policy’ – this will ensure that you and your family have a secure second option in place should you ever need it.

Yes, if your pets enter the HEA program and are a bonded pair, we will do everything we can to honour your wishes and rehome them together.

We have a whole array of animals already enrolled in the program mainly consisting of cats, dogs and small companion animals, but the program welcomes most animals great and small.

Large livestock animals such as horses, goats, pigs, cows, sheep, alpacas and donkeys will be considered if they are domesticated or tamed pets and are kept purely for companionship or pleasure. A maximum of two such animals may be enrolled (in addition to smaller companion animals).

With exotic pets such as reptiles and parrots, we advise owners to seek help from a specialist rescue group or animal sanctuary.

There is no charge during your lifetime, this program is free when you kindly leave a gift in your Will to RSPCA NSW. Gifts in Wills help to ensure that no animal is left behind or has to go without a safe and loving home. You can be assured that your future gift will make a huge difference to the lives of so many animals in need.

Yes, you have to be over 18 and be the legal owner of your pet to enrol them on the program. However, there are no age requirements for your furry friend!

Yes, if you are interested in adopting a pet from the HEA program, please email hea@rspcansw.org.au with your name and phone number and a member of our team will respond to your enquiry. As with all our adoptions, an RSPCA NSW staff member will determine your suitability according to the animal’s pet profile, needs and requirements.

If you believe your customers and/or pet owning staff and friends would benefit from knowing about the HEA program, you can promote it by displaying the HEA brochures and accompanying poster in your workplace. Click here to request a free HEA promotional pack.
