The RSPCA Information Tent is where attendees, members of the public and volunteers turn to get the 411. The attendant will need to have their know-it-all hat on to answer any and all questions. Duties include:

• Providing event information to attendees
• Providing attendees with poo bags
• Assisting with any questions from the public

The Information Tent Attendant needs to be friendly, approachable and able to remain calm under pressure.

What’s Million Paws Walk without the cute merch? The Merchandise Assistant will help sell goodies like t-shirts, dog bandannas and more. Duties include:

• Assisting with setting up the merchandise area
• Assisting with selling merchandise
• Collecting money
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary
• Assisting with any questions from the public

For this role, you have to be friendly, approachable, and remain calm under pressure.

If a last-minute attendee turns up, it’s the Entry Attendant’s job to sell them a ticket and give them the lowdown on what’s happening, as well as assisting existing attendees. Duties include:

• Greeting event attendees
• Selling event tickets (wristbands) using cash registers
• Checking wristbands
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary
• Thanking attendees for their attendance
• Assisting with any questions by public

Entry Attendants need to be friendly, approachable, and remain calm under pressure.

People Movers are in the business of getting attendees to where they need to be, handing out high fives and smiles along the way. Duties include:

• Welcoming event attendees
• Providing directions from respective areas (e.g., carpark, train stations) to the event arena
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary
• Assisting Sydney Olympic Park Traffic Management Personnel with public safety
• Assisting with any questions from the public

In this role, you should be confident in giving directions and polite when assisting participants. People Movers should also be alert and remain calm under pressure.

The Short Walk Marshals are in charge of supporting all walkers on the two-kilometre route – making sure they’re going in the right direction and handing out high fives. Duties include:

• Directing participants along the correct paths for the two-kilometre route
• Thanking event attendees for their support
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary
• Assisting Sydney Olympic Park Traffic Management Personnel with public safety
• Assisting with any questions from the public

For this role, Short Walk Marshals need to be confident giving directions and polite when assisting participants. It’s also important to remain alert and calm under pressure, as well as being comfortable on your feet all day.

The Long Walk Marshals are in charge of supporting all walkers on the four-kilometre route – making sure they’re going in the right direction and handing out supportive high fives. Duties include:

• Directing participants along the correct paths for the four-kilometre route
• Thanking event attendees for their support
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary
• Assisting Sydney Olympic Park Traffic Management Personnel with public safety
• Assisting with any questions by public

For this role, you need to be confident giving directions and polite when assisting participants. It’s also important to remain alert and calm under pressure, as well as be comfortable on your feet all day.

We’ll have some VIP guests attending Million Paws Walk, so we want to make sure they feel special and looked after. The Million Paws Club Attendant will be in charge of ensuring this happens. Duties include:

• Greeting and welcoming VIP attendees
• Assisting with any questions from the public
• Maintaining catering and stock levels
• Keeping the VIP area tidy
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary

For this role, you need to have excellent communication skills, be confident in approaching people, and possess a friendly and polite attitude.

The Entertainment Assistant will help out with all the on-stage activities and competitions throughout the day, tying up any loose ends behind the scenes. Duties include:

• Ensuring event day activities run to schedule
• Assisting in managing the stage programme
• Assisting with dog competition marshalling
• Running stage activities
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary

For this role, you’ll need good time management and organisational skills, be able to handle pressure, and be comfortable and confident working with different types of dogs.

Competition Assistants ensure our competitions run smoothly and efficiently – a first place for effort! Duties include:

• Collecting entrants’ details
• Notifying entrants when their heats are nearing
• Coordinating of heats
• Presenting prizes for first, second and third for all heats
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary

For this role, you’ll need good time management and organisational skills, be able to handle pressure, and be comfortable and confident working with different types of dogs.

The Dog All Rounder is more than happy to hang out with the stars of the show (the dogs). Duties include:

• Minding attendees’ dogs when needed (e.g., in line for food, bathrooms, etc)
• Refilling hydration stations
• Ensuring the cleanliness of the event arena
• Cooling down dogs with sprays
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary

Dog All Rounders need to be comfortable and confident handling different types of dogs, be patient and alert, and possess a friendly and polite attitude.

The most pawsitive role there is! Members of the Suppawt Squad are the RSPCA’s biggest cheerleaders. Duties include:

• Cheering on and thanking attendees as they finish the walk
• Distributing certificates
• Assisting with any questions
• Providing attendees with poo bags and picking up poo where necessary

Suppawt Squad members need to be bubbly, enthusiastic, and confident in approaching people and dogs.

You’ll need to bring your Free Travel Pass to access free public transport, or your P1 parking ticket to exchange for a validated ticket at Volunteer HQ. Of course, you’ll also need to bring a big smile and a positive attitude!

Million Paws Walk is the RSPCA’s largest annual fundraising event. It involves tens of thousands of people and their dogs registering, fundraising and participating in walks held across Australia on the same day. All profits go towards helping abandoned, injured, neglected and sick animals in the RSPCA’s care.

The event was launched in Queensland in 1994 by Dr Cam Day, who believed a special event involving animals walking together would be a fun day for both pets and their owners. Dr Day also believed it would promote responsible pet ownership, as well as raise much-needed funds for the RSPCA. Since then, Million Paws Walk has expanded significantly to become the RSPCA’s biggest fundraising event, with more than 70 walks held across Australia each year.

Million Paws Walk is held on the third Sunday in May. This year’s event will be held on Sunday 19 May 2019.
