Gardening Volunteer

RSPCA NSW is seeking volunteers to assist our maintenance team with general garden upkeep. This role involves a variety of duties to help maintain the shelter gardens and grounds, hedges and veggie patches.

As a Gardening Volunteer, you will get to use your green thumb for good and contribute to the overall wellbeing of RSPCA NSW animals. RSPCA NSW will ensure you receive appropriate training and will provide ongoing support for other opportunities within the organisation, if required.

Availability: Monday – Sunday

Times involved: 8.30 a.m. – 11 a.m., 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., 1 p.m. – 4pm.

Location: Coffs Harbour Shelter

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the maintenance team on daily duties and tasks
  • Perform gardening duties including weeding, spraying weeds, mowing and edging, racking
  • Clear drainpipes, gurney and remove clippings
  • Maintain and grow the veggie garden and harvest for pocket pets
  • Possible general maintenance of the shelter and grounds, supporting the grounds and maintenance team
  • Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines
  • Understand and comply with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures

Check requirements

  • Physical ability to lift up to 10 kilograms (essential)
  • Previous experience or interest in gardening or landscaping (desirable)
  • Ability to follow direction and work within a team and individually
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Prepared to get a little dirty
  • Well organised, flexible and able to prioritise
  • Enjoy interacting with people and animals
  • Positive attitude

A National Police Check will need to be completed prior to your commencement. Specific volunteer roles may require an additional Working with Children Check.
