Volunteer at an event or shelter and make the world of difference.

Hunter Shelter and Veterinary Hospital

Volunteers play an important role at RSPCA NSW and help with a wide variety of tasks across the state. Volunteering with us involves commitment, dedication and passion. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people and be directly involved in protecting animals from cruelty and neglect. Opportunities may differ between locations based on current availabilities and need.

Located in Rutherford, the shelter is also the animal holding facility for Cessnock, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Newcastle City Councils. The shelter offers an extensive Foster Care program, volunteering and corporate support opportunities and a retail shop. A number of school holiday and training programs, including TAFE tours, are also offered. Our Hunter Veterinary Hospital is located onsite, offering services to shelter animals and the public.
