General Maintenance Volunteer

RSPCA NSW is seeking volunteers to provide general maintenance. The role involves a variety of duties to help maintain the shelters buildings and grounds.

As a general maintenance volunteer, you will maintain and provide upkeep to the shelter, ensuring WH&S requirements and improving the shelter. RSPCA NSW will ensure that you receive appropriate training and will provide ongoing support for other opportunities within the organisation, if required.

Availability: Shifts are available seven days a week

Times involved:  8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, by arrangement

Location: Hunter Shelter and Tighes Hill Veterinary Hospital

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

  • Perform general duties from the maintenance schedule including cleaning walls, windows, doors, shelving, fencing, pathways, using a gurney, as well as general repairs and painting
  • Cleaning walls of animal enclosures and hutch cleaning out
  • Help keep the shelter clean, and keep equipment maintained and in good working order
  • Comply with all WH&S requirements and other guidelines to ensure high standards of care and safety are maintained

Check requirements

  • Physical ability to lift up to 10 kilograms
  • Ability to follow direction and work within a team and individually
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Prepared to get a little dirty
  • Well organised, flexible and able to prioritise
  • Enjoy interacting with people
  • Positive attitude

A National Police Check will need to be completed prior to your commencement. Specific volunteer roles may require an additional Working with Children’s Check.
