Shelter Volunteer

RSPCA NSW is seeking volunteers to provide general assistance at our Orange Shelter. This role involves a variety of duties to help provide socialisation and enrichment to all shelter animals. There are also opportunities to provide support in our laundry, garden and with general maintenance around the shelter.

As an RSPCA NSW volunteer, you will help provide exceptional care to the animals and valuable assistance within the Orange Shelter. RSPCA NSW will ensure that you receive appropriate training and will provide ongoing support to explore other opportunities within the organisation, if required.

Availability: Shifts are available seven days a week

Times involved:  9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m

Location: Orange Shelter

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

  • Walking dogs and providing basic training
  • Grooming and socialising with cats and kittens
  • Providing enrichment to all shelter animals
  • Making enrichment toys and activities
  • Sorting, washing and folding bedding
  • Gardening
  • Maintenance around the shelter
  • Complying with all Work Health and Safety guidelines
  • Understanding and complying with all RSPCA NSW policies and procedures

Check requirements

  • Experience handling animals (desirable)
  • Physical ability to lift up to 10 kilograms
  • Able to follow direction and work both within a team and individually
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Prepared to get a little dirty
  • Well organised, flexible and able to prioritise
  • Enjoy interacting with people and animals
  • Positive attitude

A National Police Check will need to be completed prior to your commencement. Specific volunteer roles may require an additional Working with Children Check.
