Op Shop Volunteer

RSPCA NSW is seeking volunteers to assist with customer service, sorting and packing within op shops. Our stores sell high quality second-hand and brand-new clothing, accessories and homewares.

As an Op Shop Volunteer, you will help raise vital funds for animals in our care and support various programs for people in our communities. RSPCA NSW will ensure you receive appropriate training and will provide ongoing support for other opportunities within the organisation, if required.

Availability: Monday and Wednesday

Times involved: 8.45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 12.15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: Port Macquarie Op Shop

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

  • Maximise sales by providing advice and help to our customers
  • Serve customers in the shop, handle money, use the cash register and eftpos terminal
  • Visual merchandising
  • Process donations, including sorting, pricing and hanging
  • Check stock and replenish when necessary
  • Process daily banking
  • Ensure store is clean and tidy
  • Organise donations to assess the quality and suitability of donated merchandise
  • Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines
  • Understand and comply with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures

Check requirements

  • Retail experience (essential)
  • Great customer service skills (desirable)
  • Physical ability to lift up to 10 kilograms
  • Ability to follow direction and work within a team and individually
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Well organised, flexible and able to prioritise
  • Enjoy interacting with people

A National Police Check will need to be completed prior to your commencement. Specific volunteer roles may require an additional Working with Children’s Check.
