Café Barista Volunteer

RSPCA NSW is seeking volunteers to assist in the café at the Sydney Shelter.  As a Café Barista Volunteer, you will prepare and serve hot or cold beverages and café food to staff and customers. The role involves a variety of food handling and customer service duties.

Cafe Barista Volunteers will gain valuable café, retail and customer service skills within a work environment. RSPCA NSW will ensure you receive appropriate training and will provide ongoing support for other opportunities within the organisation, if required.

Availability: Monday to Friday

Times involved:  8 a.m. –  12:30 p.m (flexible)

Location: Sydney Shelter

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve hot or cold beverages, such as coffee, espresso drinks and blended coffees
  • Selling café food
  • Cash handling
  • Clean or sanitise work areas, utensils or equipment
  • Refill merchandise stock and assist with sales
  • Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) guidelines
  • Understand and comply with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures

Check requirements

  • Previous café experience (essential)
  • Experience in customer service (desirable)
  • Physical ability to lift up to 10 kilograms
  • Ability to follow direction and work within a team and individually
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Reliable
  • Well organised, flexible and able to prioritise
  • Enjoy interacting with people and animals
  • Positive attitude

A National Police Check will need to be completed prior to your commencement. Specific volunteer roles may require an additional Working with Children’s Check.
