Our Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (Windsor) supports rescue dogs with higher behavioural needs through training and enrichment.

Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (Windsor)

Located within the Francis Greenway Correctional Complex, our Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (Windsor) plays a crucial role in supporting rescue dogs with higher behavioural needs.

Our centre serves as the primary location for the Dog Rehabilitation Program, a joint initiative established by RSPCA NSW and the Commissioner of Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW). Giving certain minimum-security inmates an opportunity to broaden their knowledge of animal welfare and acquire vocational skills, the program enables participants to gain nationally recognised qualifications to train, exercise, and care for animals in need. Participants of the Dog Rehabilitation Program are under the supervision of correctional officers with access to training and development opportunities related to animal studies.

Our behaviour centre provides our shelter dogs with a safe, supportive environment that encourages recovery, enrichment, and decompression, complete with grassed areas, bush walking trails, and swimming facilities to alleviate stress and encourage natural behaviours.

Our centre currently only aids dogs with significant behavioural needs. If you’re looking to adopt an adorable canine companion of your own, consider giving a dog from our centre the gift of a loving forever home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do RSPCA NSW behaviour and rehabilitation centres accept stray animals?

Though our shelters and adoption centres are equipped to take in injured strays, our behaviour and rehabilitation centres cannot currently accept stray animals. If you find a healthy or uninjured stray animal, you will need to reach out to your local council pound.

The RSPCA NSW Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (BARC) provides treatment and care for dogs who require a little more help and attention before finding their forever homes. Located in Somersby, BARC facilitates adoptions for the canines in our care. If you’re looking to begin your search for an adorable furry friend, you can get in touch with our team at (02) 4372 2044.

Please note that although we update our online lists of available animals every day, there is a chance that an animal you are interested in will have found a home prior to your arrival at the centre.

If you’re visiting BARC to adopt, don’t forget to bring a photographic identity document complete with your name and current address. If you already have a dog at home, you may need bring them in for a meet and greet to ensure they’ll get along with your newest furry friend.

Locations like the RSPCA NSW Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (BARC) play a crucial role in supporting dogs with higher needs. Whether they’re suffering from anxiety or recovering from abuse, some dogs may find regular shelter care particularly challenging.

Dedicated behaviour centres allow us to create an ideal environment to set, support, and meet our animals’ rehabilitation goals. Complete with outdoor space and grass for enrichment, walks, and play, our centres greatly benefit our animals as they embark on their recovery journeys. We work with our animals to prepare them for life in a stable home, helping them build the confidence they need to thrive with a family of their own.

Our behaviour and rehabilitation centres are currently focused on supporting and rehoming dogs in need.
