Social Return on Investment

Unleash Compassion - Improving Welfare at Both Ends of the Leash

We know how valued our community programs are, to our clients who use these critical services, and by you, the generous animal lovers who fund them.

But how do you measure the impact these programs have?

We are all very used to tallying the number of animals we care for, or the investigations we undertake, but when considering programs that prevent future suffering, or provide relief and support for pet owners in a time of crisis, how do you calculate the long-term impact those services have on our community?

Social Return on Investment (SROI) is a new method for measuring values that are not traditionally expressed in impact reports and financial statements. These can include social, economic, and environmental factors.

RSPCA NSW is very excited to now share three new assessments calculating the impact and the social return your investment in these wonderful community programs has.

After you have read them, we would love your feedback and thoughts about the impact of these programs and their continued role in RSPCA NSW’s work.

Aged Care

The RSPCA NSW Aged Care Program supports older people who do not have any support from family or friends to care for their companion animals and continue to live independently in their homes.

The program provides case management, in-home support, transport, grooming, emergency boarding, foster-care and assistance with veterinary treatment.

Most importantly, it ensures that older people are able to remain with their animal companion, supporting the human-animal bond.

Domestic Violence

The RSPCA NSW Domestic Violence Program provides practical solutions for pet owners leaving situations of DFV, as companion animals are likely to be present in as many as 70% of cases.

The Program offers access to safe crisis accommodation for companion animals, allowing clients to find a safe refuge for themselves whilst ensuring they are reunited with their beloved pet as soon as possible.

Primarily, ensuring that both companion animals and victims of DFV are safe and able to stay together.

Homelessness & Emergency Boarding

The RSPCA NSW Homelessness and Emergency Boarding Program provides practical solutions for pet owners experiencing a range of difficulties, including acute hospitalisations and natural disasters.

The Program provides case management, boarding, transport, assistance to access veterinary treatment, and other support as needed.

Enabling people to keep their animal companions while they focus on their own safety, recovery or treatment.
