Senior Veterinary Nurse – Full Time – Sydney Veterinary Hospital

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is Australia’s preeminent animal welfare organisation. We provide a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with dedicated staff located throughout NSW to care for animals.

Our Sydney Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced full time senior veterinary nurse to join our dedicated animal care team. We are expanding and looking for a motivated individual who thrive in fast-paced and busy environments to assist with our increasing work load.

RSPCA NSW offers a fun, fast paced, hands on nursing role. Our nurses work in all areas of the hospital including designated ICU, Isolation and Recovery wards, so there is plenty of medical nursing and one on one patient contact. The nurses are responsible for all IV catheter placement, blood draws, anaesthesia monitoring, dental scale and polish. We have a large team of experienced veterinarians and nurses who love to share their knowledge and experience, so there is always the opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge.

This position is on a full-time basis with shifts between 7:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. and will require the successful candidate to work on a seven day rotating roster, including regular weekends and some public holidays.

Role responsibilities

  • Contribute to a positive clinic culture
  • Lead, develop and train employees to ensure that they provide exceptional customer service and exemplary animal care
  • Support a high performance orientation within the team with personal accountability for decisions and actions
  • Ensure that the shelter’s activities are in line with the RSPCA NSW strategic direction and operational plans
  • Work and train staff in all areas of veterinary nursing including surgery, anaesthetics, medical nursing, isolation, consulting, ICU and recovery

Selection criteria

  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude and love of all things veterinary nursing
  • Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing (must have held certificate for at least three years)
  • Completing or willingness to complete diploma of Veterinary Nursing and commitment to ongoing education
  • Confident in all areas of veterinary nursing, with an ability to train others when needed
  • Enjoy working in fast paced environments
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Team player
