Veterinary Nurse – Full Time – Sydney Veterinary Hospital

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is Australia’s preeminent animal welfare organisation. We provide a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. The RSPCA is committed to the care and welfare of animals, providing extensive professional facilities, including fully equipped veterinary hospitals and our state-wide shelter network, with dedicated staff located throughout NSW to care for animals.

Our Sydney Veterinary Hospital is looking for two enthusiastic veterinary nurses to join our nursing team on a full-time basis. Veterinary nurses are an integral and valued part of our veterinary team, who are responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of animals in the care of RSPCA NSW.

The successful candidate will be required to work on a seven-day rotating roster between the hours of 7 a.m. – 8 p.m., including one in two weekends and occasional public holidays. Our nurses are paid above award wages and have access to ongoing training and development opportunities with our internal veterinary nurse educator.

Role responsibilities

  • Administer medications, provide exercise and environmental enrichment, and feed and water animals
  • Contribute to our positive clinic culture
  • Conduct regular checks and record patient’s condition and vital signs
  • Assist with veterinary examinations and theatre routines
  • Prepare and assist with medical procedures, including x-rays
  • Run lab tests
  • Perform medical and surgical nursing routines
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and disease control
  • Assist animal attendants with maintenance and cleaning of animal enclosures
  • Reception and consulting nurse duties

Selection criteria

  • Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing – essential
  • Minimum 1 year paid experience as a veterinary nurse
  • A commitment and interest in ongoing education
  • Enthusiasm and enjoy working in all areas of veterinary nursing
  • Prior animal handling experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team
  • An interest in animal welfare
