Upon successful completion of written and practical assessments, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment in ACMGEN309 Provide basic animal first aid.
There are no education requirements for entry into this course however all students are required to complete the online learning modules in full before attending their scheduled face-to-face training day. To allow adequate time for completion, we strongly recommend enrolling at least three weeks prior to your intended training date.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required to enrol in any nationally recognised training. For information on creating your USI, please visit www.usi.gov.au.
At RSPCA NSW, animal welfare is at the forefront of all our courses and certifications. This unit of competency covers the process of providing essential first aid for animals by recognising and responding to an emergency using basic first aid measures. The unit covers the following areas:
In line with RSPCA NSW policy, students must be at least 18 years old to enrol in any of our courses. If you’re under 18 years of age but are looking to apply for a course that commences after you turn 18, you may be allowed to enrol with a parent or guardian’s approval – this is to ensure that we can liaise with an adult in the lead up to the commencement of the course.
Yes, training fees are required to be paid in full prior to enrolment in a course and within 14 days of registering for a course. Payment options include credit card or electronic funds transfer (EFT). If you are an employer registering staff for an RSPCA NSW course, you can opt to receive an invoice when registering.
RSPCA NSW training courses are not eligible for VET Student Loans however students enrolling in the Certificate II in Animal Care course may be eligible for government subsidised funding via the Smart and Skilled program.

Your ability to study with RSPCA NSW may be impacted by any restrictions (in relation to study) associated with your visa. If you aren’t an Australian Permanent Resident but are seeking to apply for our nationally accredited courses, please contact our training team to confirm your eligibility to study with us.
Furthermore, RSPCA NSW is not registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), meaning our accredited training courses cannot take on individuals using a student visa. Many of our courses can be completed either online or in a blended delivery format. Online courses are solely taught and delivered in our online platform. Blended courses involve a mixture of online and face-to-face components.

Our accredited animal first aid course is delivered as the Unit of Competency ACMGEN309 Provide Basic Animal First Aid. This course requires us to assess students’ skills using both theoretical examination and practical assessments. Upon successful completion of the course and its assessments, students will receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment in ACMGEN309 Provide Basic Animal First Aid.
Our comprehensive Basic Animal First Aid short course covers similar content and themes as the accredited version. However, our short courses don’t have the same examination requirements as our nationally accredited courses. Students who complete any of the short courses on offer, will receive a Certificate of Completion from RSPCA NSW.
