Our targeted support initiatives improve the welfare of people and pets by safeguarding the human and animal bond.
Through our programs, we support pet owners through times of hardship, trauma, and grief, ensuring our clients and their animal companions can safely remain together. By doing so, we’re keeping invaluable human and animal relationships intact, contributing to improved human wellbeing and positive animal welfare outcomes.
For older pet owners, and those facing homelessness or domestic and family violence, supporting an animal companion can be an incredibly difficult task. We know all too well that personal circumstances do not wholly reflect someone’s ability to love and care for an animal, which is why RSPCA NSW endeavours to help wherever we can.
Our programs provide transport, in-home support, emergency boarding, foster care, and assistance with accessing veterinary treatment and critical pet care supplies. However, each of our programs is different, targeting a different area of support, and providing specialised assistance for people and animals in need.
Animals are likely to be present in up to 70% of domestic and family violence cases, which is why our Domestic and Family Violence Support Program helps those experiencing violence and coercion to seek safety for themselves and their animal companions.
The RSPCA NSW Community Aged Care Program supports older pet owners who do not have support from family or friends. We aim to ensure they can still care for their beloved animal companions while continuing to live independently in their own homes.
RSPCA NSW’s Homelessness Support Program supports pet owners experiencing health or housing emergencies, ensuring people can remain with their animal companions, even while focusing on finding housing or undergoing medical treatment.
