Little bit about Hubert

Guinea pigs, also known as cavies, are small, gentle, and highly social animals that make wonderful pets. Originally from the Andes Mountains in South America, these sweet creatures were domesticated over 3,000 years ago. While guinea pigs have poor eyesight, their hearing is exceptional, helping them stay aware of their surroundings and communicate with their human friends.

Guinea pigs are naturally shy and may need time to adjust to new environments and people. Due to their social nature, they must live with the companionship of at least one other guinea pig—a herd environment is essential to their well-being. Living alone can lead to stress and loneliness, so it's important to adopt at least two. With calm, patient, and committed owners, guinea pigs quickly become affectionate and playful companions once they feel secure.

A proper diet is crucial for guinea pig care. They need a constant supply of fresh hay, such as timothy or meadow hay, to support their digestion. Fresh vegetables, particularly leafy greens and capsicum should be provided daily, and fruit can be given sparingly. Guinea pigs also require a source of Vitamin C, which can be found in their veggies or specialized supplements.

Guinea pigs also require a spacious enclosure with soft, safe flooring to protect their delicate feet. They thrive best in a calm environment with plenty of space to explore, hide, and interact with their herd. If you're ready to commit to providing the care, attention, and environment they need, guinea pigs will offer hours of joy and companionship.
