Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of post-adoption support does RSPCA NSW provide?

After every canine or feline adoption, we promptly reach out to new pet parents to offer support via phone or email, offering advice, referrals to our teams, or access to additional helpful resources.
Whether we continue to follow up is entirely up to you, and whether you’d like us to keep checking
in to provide advice to help you and your new Rescuoodle.

Though we strive to ensure that new adopters feel supported when adjusting to life with their animal companions, our support channels are always open to any animal lovers in need of assistance. From general over-the-phone advice to referrals to our behaviour or veterinary teams, we have plenty of options available to new pet parents in need of support.

RSPCA NSW embraces love for all living beings: we believe that every creature has the capacity to bring light to people’s lives.

Our Rescuoodles are a brand-new breed comprised entirely of rescue animals! Though they come all
colours, shapes, and sizes,  something sets them apart from other breeds: an irreplaceable personality that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

We invented the term ‘Rescuoodles’ to spotlight the animals waiting for a home by reclaiming the ‘oodle’ name (commonly associated with prestigious poodle crossbreeds) and playfully highlighting all the reasons people should adopt a rescue animal.

No matter their background, rescue animals are a source of immeasurable joy; their potential to be lifelong companions makes them a breed unto themselves.

RSPCA NSW rehomes a range of adorable animals, including cats, dogs, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, and more! We can help you find your perfect dog at one of our shelters and adoption centres. You can also adopt some of our animals from over 30 Petbarn stores.

When you’re ready to adopt, you’ll need to visit our shelter to visit your perfect match in person. Once you arrive at our shelter you will be greeted by our friendly animal care team, who will guide you through the adoption process and ensure you are looked after every step of the way. They may give you a questionnaire to complete which will help theunderstand your preferences and help find a suitable animal companion to match your home and lifestyle.

When adopting, you’ll be required to present a photographic identity document, complete with your name and current address. If you already have a dog, you may need bring them in for a meet and greet to ensure they’ll get along with the newest member of the family.

Please note that although we update our online lists of available animals every day, there is a chance that an animal you are interested in will have found a home prior to your arrival at our facilities.

All cats, dogs, rabbits and male guinea pigs adopted through RSPCA NSW come desexed and microchipped. All animals adopted from RSPCA NSW have been vaccinated, kept up to date with worming and parasite treatment, and checked by a veterinarian. Desexing and identification requirements vary for each species available for adoption.

Every RSPCA NSW animal that requires desexing, microchipping, parasite treatment, and vaccinations undergoes all these procedures prior to adoption. Each animal also goes through a series of comprehensive veterinary checks along with any necessary training, quarantine, and rehabilitation.

As a charity, we use our adoption fees to help us recover a portion of these costs, so we can allocate more of our resources to supporting people and pets in need.
