Adoption Fees

At RSPCA NSW, we prioritise the health and wellbeing of every animal in our care. Before any of our animals are adopted, they undergo essential procedures like desexing, microchipping, and vaccinations. The steps we take ensure that each pet is ready to join their new families in optimal health.

In addition to these medical procedures, our dedicated veterinary team performs a series of comprehensive checks, ensuring that all potential health concerns are identified and treated. Through this holistic approach, RSPCA NSW ensures that every animal is fully prepared for adoption, giving them the best possible chance to live healthy, happy lives.

As we prepare our animals for their new forever homes, the cost of major surgeries and extensive treatments can amount to hundreds or thousands of dollars. As a charity, we rely on adoption fees to help offset some of these expenses. By doing so, we can dedicate more of our resources to our veterinary hospitals and our statewide community programs, providing life-saving care and support to countless animals and their families.

Cost Of Owning a Pet

According to the Australian Veterinary Association, the average dog owner spends more than $25,000 per pet, based on findings that many well-loved dogs can live for up to 20 years.

However, the cost of caring for an animal differs greatly between each pet. From animal type, their age and breed, to any pre-existing health conditions, various factors can affect the total cost of owning a pet.

From food, toys, and bedding to any initial adoption fees, caring for an animal usually incurs a long list of expenses. Be sure to carefully consider such costs before deciding to become a pet owner.

How do I adopt an animal from RSPCA NSW?

RSPCA NSW rehomes a range of amazing Rescuoodles, the brand-new breed of lovable pets sweeping animal lovers off their feet. Rescuoodles come in all sorts of shapes and sizes – some meow while others bark – but no matter what they look like, each has the potential to be someone’s forever friend! We can help you find your very own Rescuoodle at one of our shelters and adoption centres. Simply locate your nearest facility to begin your adoption journey today!

We also partner with Petbarn to find new homes for the animals in our care. As a result, you can
adopt RSPCA NSW animals from more than 30 Petbarn Adoption Centres.

Though we regularly update our online lists of animals available for adoption, there is always a chance that an animal you’re interested in will have found a home prior to your arrival at our facilities.

By adopting your very own Rescuoodle, you’ll be making a life-changing difference for an animal in need. Each of our animals has the capacity to be someone’s forever friend. All they need is a kind-hearted animal lover to open their heart and home.

Animal welfare organisations like ours care for thousands of animals a year, from dogs, cats, and pocket pets to horses, birds, and more!

All RSPCA NSW animals have undergone health and behavioural checks to ensure that they are ready
to begin their adoption journey. Our animals receive pre-adoption treatments (like microchipping and vaccination) as required for their species, ensuring adopters can focus on bonding with their animal companion.

We strive to provide the very best support throughout the post-adoption process. Indeed, our staff and volunteers are always ready to assist new adopters, offering guidance on everything from breed-specific advice to exercise, nutrition, and training tips.
