Sixteen-year-olds don’t come much sweeter than Juanita.
The beautiful black cat came into RSPCA NSW’s care via our Home Ever After program and was clearly well looked after with many visitors not believing her age.
Sadly, as a senior feline, Juanita was not exactly what many adopters were looking for until Lena came along.
After surpassing 200 days waiting for adoption, Juanita’s wait was finally ended when Lena started looking specifically for an older cat.
“We were looking for an older cat because people don’t want them. They want kittens and younger cats, and they don’t want the expense of looking after older cats who then have medical conditions,” Lena said.
“But I would tell them that you can get so much love and joy out of giving an older cat a home.
“If you’re not sure you want to make a 20-year commitment, then why wouldn’t you just choose an older one, give them a loving home and enjoy them while you’ve got them.
“Our first two RSPCA cats were both 21 when they died.”
When Lena met Juanita, it didn’t take long for everyone to agree that it was a perfect match.
Since renamed Molly, the friendly feline has settled in well and is getting fed a daily diet that many cats could only dream of.
“She’s just been a lovely little cat. She’s such a character and we really are wondering, is she really nearly 17?” Lena said.
“She comes and headbutts you when she wants you to pat her and drools incessantly. She’s delightful, she really is.
“There are three things in her bowl. So, she has a little smorgasbord of thin kangaroo sizzle steak, Royal Canin wet food, and tuna with prawns and gravy – which she loves and that’s where her medication goes.
“She’s got a fenced off backyard – a nice big lawn and shrubs and dirt to dig in.
“We get as much or more out of having her as what she gets from us. She’s got a home where no expense will be spared, but we get such a lot of joy out of just watching her.”
