Community Animal Welfare Scheme (CAWS)

At RSPCA NSW, we know that an individual’s circumstances do not wholly reflect their ability to love and care for a companion animal. By providing preventative veterinary services some pet owners wouldn’t be able to access on their own, we’re helping devoted animal carers give their pets the chance to live healthy and happy lives.

Our Community Animal Welfare Scheme (CAWS) began in Bathurst in 2004. In just over 20 years, more than 3500 cats and dogs have been desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped in the Bathurst local government area alone, assisting innumerable local pet owners and greatly improving animal welfare.

CAWS targets specific local government areas, with veterinary services provided by local veterinarians. By providing access to low-cost desexing, we strive to strengthen our communities and the human and animal bond.

Join a Volunteer Branch or Supporter Group

Our volunteer-run branches and supporter groups play a vital role in ensuring that CAWS has the impact that it does. With the help of our incredible volunteers working in communities across NSW, our Community Outreach Officers strive to address the hurdles facing people and animals in need. Every volunteer plays a crucial role in our success. If you have passion for animal welfare and enjoy meeting like-minded people, please consider lending a helping hand by becoming a volunteer. Whether you’re interested in organising fundraising events or helping to facilitate our community assistance programs, there’s a meaningful role waiting for you at one of our branches and groups.
