Hunter Supporter Group

RSPCA NSW’s Hunter Supporter Group plays an essential role in our mission to protect and care for animals. Run entirely by volunteers, this dedicated group organises key fundraising events and helps provide emergency veterinary assistance to pet owners in need.

By working closely with the Hunter Shelter and our Hunter Veterinary Hospital, and by partnering with local groups and animal welfare organisations, our volunteers provide financial and veterinary assistance for local animal lovers seeking assistance with their pets. In early 2024, members of the Hunter Supporter Group helped run a Community Healthy Pet Day in Hamilton South, a suburb of Newcastle. 149 animal guardians and their pets attended the event, receiving health checks, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and microchipping services.
Indeed, the Hunter Supporter Group serves as the cornerstone of our work to protect and strengthen the human-animal bond. Without them, our organisation wouldn’t have the impact it does today.

If you have a passion for animal welfare and enjoy meeting like-minded people, then why not lend a helping hand and become a volunteer today? Explore the diverse range of available volunteering opportunities and join us in our mission to assist the people and animals seeking support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do volunteer branches and supporter groups respond to animal cruelty complaints?

Our volunteer branches and supporter groups cannot investigate animal cruelty matters. If you need to make an animal cruelty report, please phone our 24-hour contact centre on 1300 278 3589.

Though many of our branches and supporter groups offer subsidised desexing and emergency veterinary assistance, we encourage you to contact your nearest branch, supporter or community volunteer group to inquire about the services and discounts we provide.

Money raised by our branches and supporter groups is spent to address the needs of the local community. With the endorsement of its members, branches also occasionally allocate funds to the wider organisation, to be used for events or community programs that promote the improvement of animal welfare.

Our branches and supporter groups do not function as animal shelters. They instead raise funds for our organisation and assist with outreach animal assistance.

You do not need to be a RSPCA NSW financial member to volunteer at any of our shelters and adoption centres, branches, supporter groups, or events. Conversely, becoming a volunteer does not automatically make you a member. However, if you wish to join the executive committee at one of our regional branches or supporter groups or want to have voting rights within that branch or group, you will need to become a financial member first.

While volunteers do not receive exclusive discounts or event admission, we frequently offer promotions, special invitations, and discounts to events to all our supporters.
Unfortunately, every state runs a different membership program. You will need to reapply to volunteer with a specific RSPCA.
