Cattery Assistant

Every year, our staff and volunteers care for more than 13,000 animals, from animals seized by our inspectorate to sick or injured strays. Indeed, our shelters are not only places where people can seek help with their pet but also a haven for vulnerable animals, or animals who have experienced cruelty or neglect.

We are looking for additional helpers for our shelters and adoption centres, to assist with the everyday care and support of cats and kittens in our care. As a volunteer Cattery Assistant, you will play a crucial role in the care and well-being of cats at RSPCA NSW. Your primary duties will include providing daily care and enrichment for the cats and kittens in care, as well as cleaning and maintenance tasks to ensure a sanitary shelter environment.

Do you love cats and want to contribute to making a difference in their lives? Consider lending a helping hand as a Cattery Assistant today!

Responsibilities and Requirements

As a volunteer Cattery Assistant, your main responsibilities will revolve around ensuring the well-being of our feline friends. Working closely with our animal attendants, you can help with essential daily tasks like cleaning enclosures and litter trays, assisting with feeding, and providing enrichment for the cats and kittens in our care.

Observing any signs of illness, injury, or behavioural issues is also key, and you’ll need to communicate concerns to our staff to ensure every cat gets the attention they need. The role is essential in the creation of a caring shelter environment, supporting cats and kittens in need as they await their forever homes.

To help us in this role, applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Be able to cope in a noisy and busy environment
  • Be able to lift 15kg
