Keeping Cats Safe at Home

Keeping Cats Safe at Home helps cat owners prevent roaming to protect both their pets and native wildlife.

Keeping Cats Safe at Home

There’s nothing we enjoy more than helping people support their feline friends.

At RSPCA NSW, we love cats! And we believe every cat deserves a safe and permanent home, away from the elements, with a family who loves and cherishes them.

Two in three cat owners have lost a cat to a roaming-related accident, with a third of these tragic accidents involving cars.

Figures like these motivated us to create the Keeping Cats Safe at Home campaign and encourage those who have a cat in their lives to keep them safe from harm at home.

As part of the campaign, we’re sharing safety insights, inspiration, and cat enrichment advice to help cat lovers everywhere extend and enhance the lives of their beloved feline friends. This campaign is all about loving cats, celebrating the people who love their cats, and motivating pet guardians to keep their feline companions safe and fulfilled.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Keeping Cats Safe at Home project?

Keeping Cats Safe at Home is a project that aims to encourage and support cat carers everywhere to keep their pets indoors. Using research, education, and targeted desexing, we’re hoping to keep cats safe, improve animal welfare education, and protect the natural environment and our beautiful wildlife animals.

If allowed to roam outside, your cat may be vulnerable to a variety of risks (like sustaining an injury from cars) or damage your local community by preying on native wildlife. For purpose-built resources on creating a home where your cat can feel loved, stimulated, and engaged, you can contact our Keeping Cats Safe at Home team at safecats@rspcansw.org.au.
