Research conducted by NSW Trustee and Guardian in 2023 showed that 60% of NSW residents do not have a legal Will document in place. For those of us with loved ones we want to support even after we’re gone, writing a Will is one of the most important things to tick off our to do list. It’s the only way to ensure that the people, animals, and charities you want to support when you die, can be supported by what you leave behind. Even if you feel you don’t have anything to give, a Will helps those you leave behind understand how you want to be remembered.
Leaving a gift to RSPCA NSW in your Will is a beautiful way to ensure your love lives on. This September, you can Write your Will for free with RSPCA NSW and Safewill.
A Legacy of Love: Real Stories from Gift-in-Will Supporters
We’re deeply honoured to be able to share the heartfelt stories of two of our treasured legacy givers. They’ve opened their hearts to tell us why they chose to leave a lasting gift to RSPCA NSW, helping protect and care for animals for generations to come.
“Love of animals has always been a part of who I am. As a child I always had a word or a pat for every dog, cat or horse I met in the street. I once learnt to gain the trust of a lost, nervous dog by patience, talking and sitting nearby, gradually edging closer until he realised, I was there to help him. Fortunately, he wore a name badge and I was able to reunite him with his owner.
Knowing the RSPCA is there to step in and step up to help animals in distress is the reason I have made provision in my Will for the RSPCA, and so helping them albeit in a small way to care for animals after I am gone.”

“My mother was brought up on a farm. Animals did not live in the city. No pets for our family! So when at the ripe old age of 46, I moved from a unit to a town house, I was determined to get my first pet living at Bankstown, purchasing my beautiful C.C from the Yagoona shelter, it was a no brainer. I fell in love with her, when, swinging in a hammock in her cage, she grabbed onto my finger. Oh what a joy she was!
An unbelievably affectionate 2 yr old, she greeted me at the door each day after work. At night she would lie on top of me and wrap her arms around my neck or drape herself around my head on my pillow. Breath to breath. Heart to heart. She lived for 20 yrs and this legacy gift is in her honour. She was so well loved, but she gave back double that love. But other animals aren’t so lucky, so this gift is tailored to the prosecution of perpetrators of cruelty to all animals.”
