Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Program (ICCAHP)

By providing vital veterinary assistance to underserved areas of NSW, we’re strengthening the bond between people and pets while nurturing compassionate, animal-loving communities.

Remote communities lack access to many essential services, impacting people’s lives and health outcomes. The same is true for companion animals living in these communities.

Our Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Program (ICCAHP) provides pet-owning communities with information, desexing services, and core pet care supplies to foster good welfare outcomes for people and animals alike. Support our work by making a donation or becoming a program sponsor today.

Shaping the Future of Animal Welfare

In addition to addressing issues like restricted access to veterinary care, an important part of our work is nurturing future animal carers. Our ICCAHP education visits give both young people and their teachers access to learning resources like the Animal Wellbeing: Awareness, Responsibility and Education (AWARE) program. By providing students throughout NSW with insight into animals’ health and wellbeing, we’re teaching students about the role people play in caring for our animal friends.

Our commitment to strengthening young people’s connection to animal welfare also extends to our wide array of Education Programs. We’ve developed engaging learning materials – including workshops, games, and presentations – designed to build empathy and understanding towards all creatures, great and small. Initiatives like AWARE and our School Holiday Program encourage young people to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the role people play in improving animals’ lives.

Our Crisis Support Programs help keep people and their animal companions together through times of hardship, hospitalisation, and even domestic violence situations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does RSPCA NSW run the Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Program (ICCAHP)?

RSPCA NSW has been intermittently running the Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Program (ICCAHP) across NSW since 2006. Since the start of the program, RSPCA NSW has delivered ICCAHP events and initiatives in Bourke, Brewarrina, Collarenebri, Enngonia, Goodooga, Taree, Walgett, Weilmoringle, and Wilcannia.

Our Indigenous Community Companion Animal Health Program (ICCAHP) is regularly run in collaboration with local Aboriginal Land Councils, Community Working Parties, municipal councils, local human service agencies, as well as kind and welcoming pet-owning communities across NSW.

In addition to desexing, RSPCA NSW provides essential preventative veterinary services (such as Parvo vaccinations, parasite prevention, and veterinary health checks) to remote pet-owning communities that might have otherwise not been able to access them. Our Education Officers also visit schools to help develop students’ understanding of animal welfare and health.
