Illawarra Shelter

Finding loving homes and giving pets a second chance.

The RSPCA NSW Illawarra Shelter is a sanctuary dedicated to providing refuge and care for surrendered or mistreated animals in the Illawarra region. Whether they’re surrenders, injured strays, or seized by our inspectorate, every animal can find the help they need with our staff and volunteers.

Located in Unanderra, the Illawarra Shelter facilitates adoptions and plays an active role in educating the community. By offering a School Holiday Program to young local animal lovers, we’re helping to nurture a new generation of compassionate animal advocates.

The Illawarra Shelter also offers a range of invaluable volunteering opportunities for passionate individuals looking to help all creatures, great and small. For those looking to open their hearts and become a foster carer, the shelter also supports our network of incredible foster homes. Also on site is a retail section selling essential supplies and pet products, making it a convenient one-stop-shop for all your pet care needs.

Overall, the Illawarra Shelter is more than just a haven for animals in need – it’s a hub for nurturing kindness for the animals that come through our doors.
