Our accredited microchipping course can be completed online or in a blended delivery format, which involves a combination of online learning and a 4-hour face-to-face session. Regardless of whether students opted for online learning or a blended delivery format, they will be required to complete both online modules and practical assessments. Â
Upon successful completion of the coursework and its practical assessments, RPSCA NSW will apply to the Office of Local Government (OLG) for students to become an Authorised Identifier in NSW. While the Statement of Attainment students receive is a nationally recognised qualification, OLG Authorised Identifier numbers will only be applied for students living in or working in clinics servicing animals in NSW. To enrol in an RSPCA NSW microchipping course, you must either be currently employed or volunteering in the animal industry or be a dog or cat breeder with a valid NSW Breeder Identification Number. Â
During the course, students will also be required to enlist a registered veterinarian to supervise microchipping implantation of ten live cats and dogs. Veterinarians must be adequately registered and be an authorised microchip identifier. Please note that RSPCA NSW cannot accommodate students to microchip animals at our facilities. Â

This course is available either fully online or in a blended delivery format, which comprises of some online learning with a face-to-face session. It’s important to understand each delivery form prior to enrolling in a course.Â
Please note that enrolment in the course does not guarantee successful completion of the course. Please also note that undertaking training through RSPCA NSW does not guarantee an interview for a paid or volunteer position at RSPCA NSW. In line with RSPCA NSW policy, students must be at least 18 years old to enrol in any of our courses. If you’re under 18 years of age but are looking to apply for a course that commences after you turn 18, you may be allowed to enrol with a parent or guardian’s approval – this is to ensure that we can liaise with an adult in the lead up to the commencement of the course. 
Yes, training fees are required to be paid in full prior to enrolment in a course and within 14 days of registering for a course. Payment options include credit card or electronic funds transfer (EFT). If you are an employer registering staff for an RSPCA NSW course, you can opt to receive an invoice when registering.Â
RSPCA NSW training courses are not eligible for VET Student Loans however students enrolling in the Certificate II in Animal Care course may be eligible for government subsidised funding via the Smart and Skilled program.

Your ability to study with RSPCA NSW may be impacted by any restrictions (in relation to study) associated with your visa. If you aren’t an Australian Permanent Resident but are seeking to apply for our nationally accredited courses, please contact our training team to confirm your eligibility to study with us.Â
Furthermore, RSPCA NSW is not registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), meaning our accredited training courses cannot take on individuals using a student visa. Once your payment has been processed, you’ll be enrolled in your selected course. Please note, enrolments are processed during business hours (Monday to Friday). Payments or registrations made over the weekend will be handled the following week.
After enrolment, you’ll receive an email from Learnbook, our learning management system, with instructions on how to access your course.
For online courses with scheduled start dates such as the Microchipping Online course, students will gain access to their learning materials on the official commencement day of the course.

You don’t need to reside or work in NSW to participate in our microchipping course. However, it’s important to note that successful completion of our microchipping course does not guarantee that you will be eligible to become an authorised microchip implanter in your preferred state.  Â
Microchipping legislation and the steps necessary to become an authorised microchip implanter differs from state to state. So, while the unit we deliver is nationally recognised, we do not have the authority to apply for an authorised implanter number for students residing or working outside of NSW. Â

Our comprehensive microchipping course can be completed either online or in a blended delivery format (which involves both online learning and a face-to-face session). Please note that face-to-face training days are only a part of the blended course; pre-course and post-course work and assessments are also required to complete the course.Â
Microchipping students have a maximum of 28 weeks to complete the course. Students are permitted to complete the course in less than 28 weeks and may request additional time to complete the coursework when required. With time to complete assessments and access to animals for practical experience, it is possible to complete an RSPCA NSW microchipping course within 3-4 weeks.
