Honey’s Rescuoodle Story

In late 2025, a member of public made the grim discovery of cat cruelly zip-tied inside a potting mix bag.

Remarkably, the black-and-white feline was still alive and promptly brought to the Hunter RSPCA NSW shelter by the individual that found her.

Despite the distressing nature of her arrival, the cat was relatively ok and quickly earned the name Honey for her sweet nature.

Without up-to-date microchip details, it proved impossible for RSPCA NSW Inspectors to determine where Honey had come from and what exactly had happened.

Honey was given an estimated age of 12 and was soon transferred to RSPCA NSW’s Behaviour and Rehabilitation Centre (BARC) in Somersby so they could get a better understanding of her health and what sort of forever home she’d need.

Due to her age, initial adoption interest was minimal but there was someone that had spotted her online and taken a special interest.

Jenny’s son had seen Honey’s adoption profile and mentioned how much she looked like their previous RSPCA cat Misha.

Unfortunately, Jenny had recently undergone surgery and was unable to drive for an estimated six months making any adoption of Honey difficult.

But fate had other plans, and Jenny was cleared to drive after just two months and decided it was a sign to enquire about sweet Honey, who was still waiting patiently for her forever home.

In yet another sign they were meant to be brought together, Honey was with a foster carer that lived just five minutes away from Jenny making a meeting and eventual adoption all the easier.

“Honey looked just like our other cat, Misha, that I got from the RSPCA back in maybe 2005…it was absolutely meant to be,” Jenny said.

“She’s such a sweetheart. She’s really relaxed with us and she’s jumping up on our laps and she’s sleeping in a hammock.

“She’s just so laid back for what happened in her past. It’s disgusting how they found her, but she is still just so accepting and loving to humans.

“People don’t realise that older cats are really nice cats. They’re quite calm and you know what their personality is.

“We’ve got three cats from the RSPCA over the years, and they’ve all been absolutely amazing.”

Now spending her days lounging in hammocks, it’s safe to say Honey has landed on her feet after such a harrowing experience.
