Rats and mice require time and effort, but probably not as much as you think. Try these tips for day-to-day things you can do can make a little time for your furry friend.

Try these tips

Got cardboard or newspaper?

Consider setting up an area (out of cage) where your pet can roam around while you`re not home. It can be as simple as cardboard boxes, tubes and newspaper for them to run around in and rumage through. This should be secure and safe from other pets and potential hazards. Mice are very intelligent, so will enjoy playing with toys. Try putting treats into an empty kitchen or toilet roll tube, and stuffing both ends with paper for them. You can also give them a hammock to swing in.

Adopt them a friend!

Rodents are very sociable, so enjoy being kept with other mice. However, if you do keep males and females together, make sure both animals are the same sex or at least one gender has been desexed. Paired females tend to get on better than paired males.

Waiting on your morning coffee?

Changing a rat or mice bedding and flooring doesn`t require a lot of time, they just require it regularly. Try to find a regular spot in your daily schedule for it and it`ll become an effortless habit. Enjoy a morning tea or coffee? Change the bedding each day and cut up some health vegetable snacks as you wait for the kettle to boil.
